Fortress Power
A complete suite of software tools for energy storage management.

Overview
Growing Pains
Fortress Power sells storage solutions for your energy. As they grew, new products and acquisitions came with their own software. This led to multiple apps that did similar things in slightly different ways. Installers and technicians had to juggle several tools to do one job, and homeowners were often unsure which app they were supposed to use.
I spent a year with an international engineering team redesigning the entire software suite, culminating in a streamlined experience that met the needs of all users, while maintaining compatibility with existing hardware and firmware constraints.
The work
Homeowner App
The new Homeowner App gives users a single place to see their system's real-time and historical performance, no matter which Fortress product they own.

Useful Reports
In the home energy app market, every single "Report" or "Analysis" feature tends to just show the user everything, and leave it to them to figure it out. After numerous conversations, tests, and more conversations with our users, it became clear that users mostly care about where their energy is coming from, and how the energy is being used or stored.

Installer App
The new Installer App now allows installers and technicians to commission, monitor, and troubleshoot any Fortress installation from one tool. Remote access is now possible, meaning many issues can be diagnosed and fixed without driving to the site. I have been told by some technicians that I'm saving them multi-hour round trips just to turn something off and back on again.

Fleet Management Portal
The Fleet Management Portal gives commercial operators a centralized view of all systems in their fleet, making it easier to spot problems and act before small issues turn into big ones.

Outcome
Connected castle walls
The redesign reduced multiple overlapping apps into one clear tool per user type, made remote troubleshooting possible, gave homeowners clearer visibility into their energy system, and created a foundation the team can now build on instead of patching around old tools.
