SidelineHD

Letting parents live stream their kids’ sports games from any device with a browser.

Overview

What happened?

SidelineHD had strong streaming technology and infrastructure for live games, VODs, and data collection, but had never hired a UX designer. Developers had been tacking on new features for years, resulting in pages that grew longer and more cluttered over time.

With an acquisition in progress, I was brought in to organize the existing features into a coherent experience on a tight timeline. I worked closely with the development team to understand what features mattered most and how users actually navigated the platform.

The work

Getting things done in a short timeline

I redesigned the web and mobile web experience to function like familiar streaming platforms while incorporating sport-specific features like live scoreboards. The new design gave all the existing functionality a clear structure without requiring major technical changes.

New team page
Teams now had a palce for their highlights, game stats, and roster.
Sharing a team
Highly requested feature for the parent Facebook and iMessage groups.
Live game experience
Teams that are currently streaming will indicate so.
User dashboard
Where parents can see their athletes, and any teams they manage.
Team settings
A cleaned up and improved team settings experience.
Under 13 privacy
No if, and, or buts about it
Responsive design
The new design works well on all devices.

Outcome

A successful acquisition and beyond

In less than a month, I delivered an improved user experience with a fresh coat of paint that put live streaming and the game viewing experience front and center.

SidelineHD was acquired by Diamond Kinetics in March 2024. While the SidelineHD has now been integrated into the Diamond Kinetics family, the design is still in use and has been adapted for native iOS and Android apps.
